What KHIE Does

KHIE connects healthcare organizations across the Commonwealth so that patient information is available when and where it is needed most. This helps providers make better decisions, reduce duplicate testing, and deliver more coordinated care.

Through KHIE, authorized users can securely access:

  • Patient health histories
  • Laboratory results
  • Medication information
  • Hospital and clinical visit data
  • Public health reporting information

By bringing this information together, KHIE supports a more complete, real-time view of a patient’s health.

How KHIE Benefits You
For Patients
  • Your healthcare providers have access to more complete information about your health
  • Reduced need to repeat tests or provide the same information multiple times
  • Safer, more coordinated care across different providers and locations
For Providers
  • Faster access to critical patient information
  • Improved clinical decision-making
  • Enhanced care coordination and patient outcomes
For Public Health
  • Better data to monitor health trends and respond to public health needs
  • Improved ability to support population health initiatives across Kentucky
  • Privacy and Security

Protecting patient information is a top priority. KHIE follows strict federal and state laws to ensure that health data is secure and only accessible to authorized users for appropriate purposes.

We are committed to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all health information shared through the system.

KHIE Monthly Updates

August 2026

Back-to-School Health

As students across Kentucky prepare to head back to school, healthcare providers enter a busy period of immunization record requests, chronic condition check-ups, and increased ER visits due to sports and playground injuries. The clinical data in the KHIE Portal helps to ensure a well-rounded picture for every patient encounter, helping you identify gaps, make more informed decisions, reduce duplicative testing, and keep students safe this school year.

August is one of the busiest times for pediatric and family practices. Appointments are in high demand as families juggle back-to-school preparation with work schedules, and students scramble to complete required forms, clearances, and immunizations to meet tight deadlines.

Find the Information You Need in the KHIE Portal Clinical Information Application

Our Clinical Information tool can help you efficiently complete back-to-school appointments and forms, reducing burden and duplicative work.
