There will soon be three types of groups to advise DMS on the Medicaid program: the Medicaid Advisory Committee (MAC), the Beneficiary Advisory Council (BAC), and Technical Advisory Committees (TACs).
-
Medicaid Advisory Committee (MAC): In accordance with new federal requirements, the current Advisory Council for Medical Assistance will expand to include representatives from more organizations and more individuals with lived Medicaid experience. The name will change to the Medicaid Advisory Committee but the acronym, MAC, will stay the same. The initial meeting of the Medicaid Advisory Committee will be in September 2025. DMS has finalized the MAC membership type and term lengths for the different positions.
-
Beneficiary Advisory Council (BAC): DMS has created a new group called the Beneficiary Advisory Council (BAC) for current Medicaid members, or people who used to be members, along with their families and/or caregivers. The BAC is meant to help make decisions about Medicaid and make sure that people who have used Medicaid can share their ideas. You can find more information about the BAC, including its list of members, on the BAC website. This website will also have the meeting dates, agendas, meeting notes, and presentations.
-
Technical Advisory Committees (TACs): TACs are groups that help with Medicaid. TAC members can be people who work for certain providers or individuals who represent people using Medicaid. You can learn more about the TACS on their website. If you want to know about future opportunities to apply for the MAC, BAC, or to participate in the TACs, sign up here to receive email updates about Kentucky Medicaid.

If you are a member of the MAC, BAC, or a TAC and need special help, you can email DMS. In your email, explain what you need and what help you are asking for. DMS will look at the request to see if it is reasonable. If they think it is not reasonable, they will work with you to find a different solution. Each request will be looked at individually to meet the specific needs of each member.
