​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Division of Family Support (DFS) ​administers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, the Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program, Kentucky Works Program, Family Alternatives Diversion Program and the Medicaid programs.

The division also manages the Community Services Block Grant, the Nutrition Education Program, the SNAP Nutrition Education Program (formerly known as food stamps), the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program and State Supplementation. DFS also participates in administration of electronic benefit transfer cards and develops policy for all division program areas.




Applications for these programs are taken in Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) offices in all 120 counties, by phone toll-free at 855-306-8959, or apply online through the kynect Kentucky Benefits Portal​.
