The purpose of Emergency Preparedness is to prepare the aging network to respond to catastrophic emergencies using strategies, actions and plans that have been tested in the aftermath of the only real-life pandemic experience within the last century. The Kentucky Department for Aging and Independent Living, the Georgia Department of Human Services and the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger (NFESH), in partnership with the Human Development Institute (HDI) at the University of Kentucky (UK), received a 2020 Administration for Community Living Nutrition Innovations Grant for the preparation of State Units on Aging (SUA), Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) and senior centers to respond effectively to statewide emergencies in the context of a national and/or global catastrophe. The Food for Thought: Equipping Senior Centers for the Next Emergency project will provide disaster plans and simulated emergency response exercises for implementation in senior centers across Georgia and Kentucky.
