The Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) offers food assistance to low-income households affected by a Presidential Disaster Declaration.
Unlike regular SNAP, DSNAP may help people who are not normally eligible for food assistance due to disaster-related circumstances.
If your household has experienced losses due to such an event, you may qualify for benefits, even if you’re not typically eligible for SNAP.
When is DSNAP available?
To qualify for DSNAP, you must:
- Interview - conducted by phone or in person to determine eligibility
- Provide a valid photo ID
- Live or work in a disaster-declared area approved for DSNAP
- Have disaster-related expenses, such as:
- Home or business repairs
- Temporary shelter costs
- Evacuation or relocation expenses
- Meet DSNAP income limits and not currently receiving SNAP
benefits
DSNAP becomes available when:
- A Presidential Disaster Declaration includes Individual Assistance, and
- A DSNAP Waiver is approved by the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) (USDA) for Kentucky to operate DSNAP in specific counties or areas.
