Important Coding ChangesResolution to count PAPs for FPAR: Effective July 2024. As a reminder, the State Lab no longer performs pap smear testing. CPT code 88142SP has replaced the 88142 on the most recent patient encounter form, PEF. The 88142SP will be collected as part of the FPAR count. Code 88142SP will be used for every PAP specimen collected, regardless of the reason for collection such as repeat PAPs. Use 88142SP regardless of patient's payer source.
Health Departments With Electronic Documentation Systems
- The SP modifier code must be built for agencies to utilize the code in ezEMRx or other electronic documentation systems. Please work with your vendor to make changes to report the 88142SP code.
Local Health Department Family Planning Providers
The Kentucky Department for Public Health allocates awarded federal Title X funds to local health departments who commit to provide family planning services in their area.
Title X core services include contraceptive services, pregnancy testing and counseling, optimal family spacing, basic infertility services, STD services, preconception health, related preventive health services (for example, cancer screening) and other preventive health services. Family planning services are provided to both females and males.

Effective July 2024 the Quality Assurance Program Review Tool has been separated into two surveys: the Family Planning Annual Policy Review, and the Family Planning Annual Chart Review. Both surveys are to be completed once a year. Agencies that have started 2024 chart reviews, click on the new link below and continue.
