​The Radiation Producing Machines Program inspects and registers all facilities that use radiation producing machines. The program inspects mammography facilities under a cost reimbursement contract with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to assure facilities meet the requirements of the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992. The program also certifies operators of sources of radiation to ensure compliance with existing statutes and regulations.

The operator certification section approves continuing education as a prerequisite for renewal for operators. The operator certification section provides a home study course in limited radiography for individuals working in doctors' offices and clinics and inspects post-secondary schools of radiologic technology.
