The Historical Society has collected and filed some birth and death records from various Kentucky counties by direction of the 1850 General Assembly. These records cover the period from 1851-1862. Registration under this legislative act was discontinued in 1862. The law was re-enacted in the mid 1870s, although many counties did not participate or dropped the program after a few years.
