Public Health Education Design and Development Branch

Programs and Services

The Public Health Education Design and Development Branch. (PHEDD) documents workforce competency and compliance training and supports accreditation using cost-effective web-based technology. EWD plays a vital role in providing effective, efficient training to the Kentucky Department for Public Health, local health departments, public health preparedness and other partners. The documentation tool used is Kentucky TRAIN.

TRAIN Learning Management System

PHEDD branch staff maintains and provide technical assistance to users of the Training Finder Real-time Affiliate Integrated Network (TRAIN), a multifunctional web-based training system for health organizations.

DPH uses TRAIN to deliver organized, cost-effective education programs and training courses using formats such as face-to-face, webinar, webcast and online modules. These programs are available for multiple disciplines and lay individuals. Since TRAIN is an online management system, these programs and training are available to anyone with computer access 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The TRAIN system allows posting of training courses, registration and communication with participants including feedback on training. As a learner, it maintains all the training in one simple electronic folder.

Module Development

Online Training Module

This service makes existing face-to-face training available online. The course is interactive using established adult learning principles to assure an optimal learning experience. The online module is self-paced and can include a pre-test/post-test to determine the level of understanding before and after the course is completed. Since online modules are web-based, the training is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Courses allow learners to interact with the training material, are self-paced with immediate feedback on progress and offer an exam to determine if learning objectives are met.

Continuing Education

Continuing education ensures quality programming and helps the workforce maintain professional licenses and credentialing. The continuing education program coordinates CE credit through the Kentucky Board of Nursing, Nurse Education Providership for face-to-face, virtual learning and online module training.
