FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb.1, 2007) – Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) Secretary Mark D. Birdwhistell announced today that Hans Herklotz will serve as the new general counsel for the cabinet, effective immediately.
Herklotz joined CHFS in 2004 - first as the director of the Division of Law and Litigation in the Office of Legal Services and then as deputy general counsel. Prior to working for state government, he was in private practice with Piper, Wellman & Bowers in Lexington, specializing in health care and employment litigation.
“Hans Herklotz has a strong background in health care and employment law,” said Birdwhistell. “He has been a valuable asset to the cabinet and we are pleased he agreed to take on this key position.”
As general counsel, he will be responsible for a staff of 43 that provides legal advice, assistance and skilled representation for CHFS’ officers, employees and departments and the constituents it serves.
A native of Northern Kentucky, Herklotz holds bachelor's degrees in history and chemistry from Eastern Kentucky University and a J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law.
