AmeriCorps program grant training announced
Prospective AmeriCorps program directors and sponsors can get help preparing program grant applications at five workshops in October.
The Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service (KCCVS), which administers the state AmeriCorps program, is sponsoring four basic and one advanced grant preparation workshops at five locations around the state. KCCVS is an agency of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
Eligible applicants are 501(C)3 nonprofit organizations, schools, local governments and state agencies. To be eligible for funding, proposed AmeriCorps programs must address unmet local needs in education, the environment, public safety, homeland security or other human services.
Nine programs currently operate in Kentucky, providing essential community services ranging from student tutoring and assisting residents with housing issues to providing in-home support to the elderly and disabled and training youth in leadership skills.
Basic grant preparation workshops provide instruction on developing competitive grant applications.
The following workshops are scheduled (all time local):
Basic grant preparation sessions:
Lexington: Oct. 10,
Ashland: Oct. 12,
Henderson: Oct. 17,
Louisville: Oct. 19,
More extensive budget and performance training will be offered at the advanced workshop in Frankfort, Oct. 25. Prior basic grant preparation training is recommended. Call KCCVS for more details on this training session.
