The chemistry branch includes the biochemistry and instrumentation sections. The biochemistry section performs clinical chemistry and newborn screening tests. The instrumentation section provides a variety of environmental assays.

The Instrumentation Section provides chemical and physical analysis to the Kentucky Department of Labor Occupational Safety Hazards Administration (OSHA) program, the Environmental Management, Food Safety and Milk Safety Branches and Dental Program of the Department for Public Health and to the local health departments.
