Legislation Creating Women's Health Office
The Office of Women's Physical and Mental Health was established with the passage of HB 864 by the 1998 General Assembly. According to Kentucky Revised Statutes Chapter 194A.095 the purpose of the office is to:
- Serve as a repository for data and information affecting women's health and mental health;
- Analyze and communicate trends in women's health issues and mental health;
- Recommend data elements affecting women's health and mental health that should be collected, analyzed and reported; and
- Administer a Women's Health Resource Center to focus on targeted preventive and comprehensive health education.
The office opened Oct. 1, 2000 and in June, 2004 was reorganized as a division in the newly established Department of Human Support Services in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
||Breast Cancer Trust Fund legislation
The Breast Cancer Research and Education Trust Fund (BCTF) was created with the passage of HB 7 by the 2005 General Assembly. The BCTF will be funded through an income tax refund check-off and the sale of a special breast cancer awareness license plates.
The Division of Women's Physical and Mental Health will serve as support and adminitrative staff to the Trust Fund Board of Directors and will be responsible for administrative duties related to the BCTF.
BCTF funds will be used to provide screening, treatment, research, education and awareness efforts related to breast cancer in Kentucky. More information on the BCTF will be forthcoming in early 2006.
