Volunteer Insurance Program

The Kentucky Volunteer Insurance Program is a service of the KCCVS. Underwritten through the Corporate Insurance Management Association, three different types of volunteer insurance are offered. Coverage runs from from July 1 to June 30, annually. Although policies may be purchased at any time during the coverage period, the premium will not be pro-rated for coverage of shorter duration.

Rates effective July 1, 2011-June 30, 2012. Due to rising costs to the KCCVS for insurance policies, rates for work release/court referral insurance have increased.

• Rates for the court referral insurance will increase to $16.
• Rates for the work release insurance will increase to $71.
• Rates for the volunteer insurance will increase to $21.

Court Referral Insurance

Convicted offenders who choose alternative sentencing or community service in lieu of fines or jail time are eligible for accident-only coverage. The cost is $16 including handling fee. This policy provides a maximum of $25,000 for accidents occurring during a volunteer activity. No death benefit is offered under this policy option.

Work Release Insurance

This insurance is available for persons who are incarcerated and permitted to perform community service. The cost is $71 and includes a $7 handling fee. This premium will not be prorated for those applying later during the year. The coverage provides a maximum benefit of $25,000 for accidents during a service activity and a $2,500 death benefit.

Volunteer Insurance

For all other volunteers, full coverage policies are $21 per person. The policy premium includes coverage for accidents, personal liability, excess automobile liability and a handling fee. Policies of this type are sold to volunteer organizations only.
