MDS 3.0 Section Q Implementation
The MDS 3.0 Section Q implementation also is known nationally as the Community Living Initiative through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It gives residents of nursing facilities the opportunity to find alternative living arrangements in the community. The initiative uses an assessment process to help nursing home residents determine the most appropriate setting for their needs and abilities.
Version 3.0 of the MDS improves the ability of skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and nursing facilities (NFs), states and other qualified entities to identify individuals who would like to returning to the community.
Improvements to the assessment process give SNF and NF residents a voice, increase clinical relevance and accuracy and increase communication and collaboration among service providers. Residents will be asked directly if they want to talk to someone about returning to the community.
