Physical Health

Adult Day Care: Community-based group program designed to provide social and related supportive services for older persons.

Adult Health: The Department for Public Health develops and operates all public health programs and activities for the citizens of Kentucky.  This includes health service programs for the prevention, detection, care, and treatment of physical disability, illness and disease.

Diseases and Conditions: Information about a variety of diseases and conditions.  Includes AIDS/HIV, Diabetes and SIDS.  Also has tips for prevention and treatment options.

Medicaid: Assigned to purchase quality healthcare and related services that produce positive outcomes for persons eligible for programs administered by the Department. 

Presumptive Eligibility for Pregnant Women: Presumptive Eligibility is a program that enables eligible pregnant women to receive prenatal care through Medicaid for up to 90 days while their eligibility for full Medicaid benefits is determined.

Women’s Cancer Screening: Provides breast and cervical cancer screening and follow-up services, professional education, public education, outreach, quality assurance and surveillance.

Mental Health

Alzheimer's Respite: Alzheimer's respite is a program of supervision and care provided to a person with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia to give the caregiver temporary relief from care-giving duties.

Mental Health: At the Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities, our mission is to provide leadership, in partnership with others, to prevent disability, build resilience in individuals and their communities and facilitate recovery for people whose lives have been affected by mental illness, substance abuse or intellectual disability or other developmental disability.

Protection

Adult Abuse: Abuse is when a person hurts or injures another person physically or mentally. It does not have to be deliberate or intentional.

Fraud, Waste and Abuse: The Division of Fraud, Waste and Abuse/Identification and Prevention is responsible for planning, developing, and directing agency efforts to identify and prevent fraud, waste and abuse in the Medicaid program, and all other welfare programs administered by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Assistance

Caregiver Support: The Older Americans Act Amendments of 2000 established the National Family Caregivers Support Program to help families with their roles as caregivers.

Medical Transportation: Provides non-emergency transportation through local brokers.

Personal Care Attendant: Attendant services for people 18 and older with functional loss of two or more limbs and who have the ability to hire and supervise an attendant.

Support Group (KinCare): There are more than 65,000 children in Kentucky living with their grandparents.  KinCare assists grandparents and other relative caregivers both in accessing available services which will help them better function in the caregiver role, and in identifying needs that are going unmet because some services are not being provided.

Women’s Cancer Treatment: Women who have been screened by a local health department for breast or cervical cancer and found to need treatment for breast or cervical cancer can receive treatment through Kentucky Medicaid Services.  This program became effective October 1, 2002.
